untitled 2.0
2023
untitled 2.0 is a choreographic installation for a body, a fluorescent light, and sound. The work is the development of a performative work named untitled created in 2019 by May Zarhy in collaboration with musician Elad Bardes. Three years after the performances of untitled were canceled due of Covid-19, the new work untitled 2.0 is a transformation into a choreographic installation, where the viewer can enter and leave according to their own will.
untitled 2.0 is a durational work set as an immersive environment. The piece takes place in a dark space, with a single red fluorescent source of light which is held by the female performer Susanne Grau and moved around the space A sound installation of 4 single channels and a subwoofer surrounds the space. The performer and her light source are the reference points guiding the viewers’ gaze and attention in relation to the constantly changing soundscape. Based on a series of recordings of own physical bodily activities such as breath, scratching, jumps and other body movements that are sampled and composed musically and spatially,
untitled 2.0 triggers a disorienting, fantastic and uncanny environment.
This choreographic installation deals with urgency as theme and quality, with the action of breathing as a choreographic and sonoric material. Drafting a fine line between eroticism and aggression, agency and submission, untitled 2.0 emphasizes how unobvious it is to simply breathe and be together as a group of people present in one space.
